Doodson Motorsport – Brands Hatch GP Final

Despite suffering a severe stomach virus Doodson Motorsport rider Robbin Harms still managed to battle through and notch up more championship points at the final round of this year’s British Superbike championship.

Returning to the Brands Hatch GP circuit for the twelfth and final round of the 2012 BSB series the Doodson Motorsport team were keen to continue the momentum built in recent rounds and with three races scheduled all look set for a strong weekend.

Unfortunately team rider Robbin Harms arrived from Denmark suffering from a severe stomach sickness just prior to the event and was in hospital until 1 am following the first day’s practice as tests were carried out following a suspected stomach ulcer later diagnosed as a severe viral infection.

With a hectic Saturday schedule including practice, qualifying, and the first race it was a case of energy management for the Dane and the strategy was to use race one purely as qualifying for race two and retire early to rest. Having posted the 15th fastest time Harms retired on lap seven to rest.

Doodson Motorsport team owner and teammate Tom Tunstall was suffering with rear grip issues and improvements by the team to the set-up of his Honda helped the Yorkshireman take 22nd place in the first outing.

Unfortunately a good night’s rest wasn't enough to elevate Robbin’s  symptoms, but despite still suffering pain, cramps, and lack of energy a phenomenal effort in race two yielded a 12th place result and the 9th fastest lap moved him even further up the grid for the third and final race.

The performance had its cost and despite sleeping between races Harms retired after the warm up lap feeling completely drained and not safe to push the high powered superbike to its limits amongst the 31 other riders.

Harms explained:
“This weekend was more hard than expected because of a devil bad virus in my body which took all my energy. I am sad that I was sidelined by the virus because I felt we had a lot to bring to the table this weekend. Anyway I did all I could in race two today but the last ten laps felt like a desert walk. I was happy to make ninth fastest lap but I just didn’t have the energy and strength to finish the last race."

"I like to thank the Doodson team for this great opportunity in BSB which I have enjoyed to the maximum in all ways and will look forward to next season.”

For Tunstall race two saw him steal 19th from Australian Supersport Champion Nick Waters on the final lap and pick up 22nd in the final race.

Tunstall concluded:
“Considering Robbin’s illness this weekend he did an incredible job. He and the Doodson Motorsport team were still able to show the top ten pace of recent rounds despite being far from his best."

"As a team we had a difficult and turbulent first half of the season but we managed to turn things around, post some great results and build good foundations for the future. We are very grateful to Doodson for their loyal support and I'd like to thank every member of our team who all played their part.”

With the 2013 British Superbike Calendar already released [below] the team plan to continue to build on the progress and potential seen since the shift back to Honda through into next year.
